The best way to learn how to ride a motorcycle, with 10 to 11 hours of hands-on drills.

Covers the basics of operating a motorcycle and safety-oriented mental strategies. Motorcycles are provided for your use. Before the on-cycle riding exercises, you will explore basic learn-to-ride topics, including fundamental riding skills, mental perceptual strategies, and behavioral self-assessment activities. These topics will be covered either in a live classroom setting, using one of MSF’s online eCourses, or a combination of the two. This is followed by ten to eleven hours of on-cycle riding and safety exercises. The course may earn you an insurance discount. Successful completion provides a New York DMV road test waiver for New York state driver license holders.

Designed for riders of 3-wheel motorcycles, whether the two wheels are in the back or the front. Before the on-cycle riding exercises, you will explore basic learn-to-ride topics, including fundamental riding skills, mental perceptual strategies, and behavioral self-assessment activities. These topics will be covered either in a live classroom setting, using one of MSF’s online eCourses, or a combination of the two. This is followed by seven to nine hours of on-cycle riding and safety exercises, plus knowledge and skill tests (where applicable). The course may earn you an insurance discount. You may bring your own 3-wheel motorcycle, or one may be provided. Successful completion provides a New York DMV road test waiver for New York state driver license holders.

Similar to the BRC except speeds are higher and you should be on your own motorcycle. An excellent refresher course for practicing and renewing riding skills. Includes a four-hour eCourse and riding skills test. If you do not need the license waiver component (no classroom activities and no knowledge or skill test), there is a "Skills Practice" offering. Successful completion provides a New York DMV road test waiver for New York state driver license holders.

An informative online course; required in some states as part of the hands-on BRC (included when enrolled in either a BRC or BRC2-LW).

An online course is a key component of the hands-on Basic RiderCourse and is provided at no cost when you enroll in the BRC. It can also be completed as a stand-alone program without enrolling in a hands-on course. Graphics and videos illustrate the lessons to help you understand principles of motorcycling and determine whether motorcycling is right for you. The Basic eCourse alone is NOT accepted as a license waiver by any state's DMV, or as a motorcycle license or learner's permit. With Spanish language option.

This BRC option has a smaller class size to allow for specialized, rider-specific coaching.

This Basic RiderCourse option consists of a smaller class size (fewer than 12 riders on the range during the riding portion of the course). Opportunities for specialized, rider-specific coaching are increased. Just as with the regular BRC, prior to the on-cycle riding exercises, you will explore basic learn-to-ride topics, including fundamental riding skills, mental perceptual strategies, and behavioral self-assessment activities. A half-day on-cycle program consisting of BRC riding exercises.

Designed for riders to practice their basic skills, whether or not they were successful in the regular BRC. There is no formal classroom instruction. Motorcycles are provided for your use. Completion of this course does not earn you a New York DMV road test waiver and will not qualify you for an insurance discount.

Similar to the Basic eCourse, but for riders who already have some experience.

The Street Strategies eCourse is for riders who already have some experience and focuses on street and traffic strategies. It is similar to the MSF Basic eCourse, but basic learn-to-ride and motorcycle controls content is omitted and overall course time is reduced by nearly half. This eCourse alone is NOT accepted as a license waiver by any state's department of motor vehicles, or as a license to ride a motorcycle or as a learner's permit. Both eCourses include selectable Spanish text and audio.

This program combines elements of the BRC and BRC2 and includes knowledge and skill tests. Similar to the BRC2 – License Waiver RiderCourse, it consists of only the riding exercises and does not include an eCourse. It is a perfect way for you to reinforce basic skill on your own motorcycle.

A five-hour riding course designed to help licensed riders develop basic riding skills.

Exercises focus on a variety of cornering skills and limited-space maneuvers. By the end of the course, you should be able to handle a motorcycle well enough to negotiate normal street and traffic situations. Motorcycles and helmets are provided for your use. You must have a valid motorcycle permit or license endorsement.

Serves as your first street riding experience, under the supervision of a RiderCoach.

For newly licensed riders. Venture out under the supervision and guidance of a RiderCoach, who will be narrating the ride and giving real-time instruction to participants. This half-day program includes classroom activities to assess and improve your perceptual skills, practice time on basic riding skills, and a couple of hours of actual street riding in a local area.

Intensive course that complements your basic skills and helps with risk-assessment.

Includes a fast-paced classroom segment with several fun, interactive activities to improve perception and hazard awareness. Range exercises enhance both basic operating skills and crash-avoidance skills. Improving your braking and cornering finesse is emphasized. The course is beneficial for riders on any type of street motorcycle.

The Rider Skills Lab (RSL) is a range-only program that consists of a menu of RiderCourse exercises that may be offered as a single exercise or a series of exercises.

The Rider Skills Lab (RSL) is a menu of 23 riding exercises from MSF RiderCourses. RSL is structured to be fun and encourages practice of personal riding skills. It does not include formal testing. RSL is not a RiderCourse but rather an experience made up of one or more exercises chosen by riders and/or a RiderCoach. The purpose is to build skills through repeated practice in various exercises supervised by a RiderCoach. Exercises may be configured to focus on overall skill development or specifically target skills such as braking, cornering, emergency maneuvers and slow-speed handling. The course is for licensed riders who use a personal motorcycle.

A 5-hr course for experienced riders, modeled after police training courses.

There is no formal classroom and the riding exercises focus on limited-space maneuvers, modeled after police training courses. Through progressively challenging exercises, you develop smooth and precise control and learn more about the limits of your abilities and your bike's capability. You must bring a valid motorcycle permit/license endorsement, and an insured/registered/street-legal motorcycle.

A 2-hr. first-touch experience with a motorcycle, not designed to teach riding skills.

Focused on reviewing a motorcycle's primary parts and controls, it helps you determine whether motorcycling is a good personal choice. You are given the option to manipulate the controls while astride a motorcycle. A self-assessment component ensures you are of aware of the risks and requirements for being a good, safe and responsible rider.

A one-day course, similar to the ARC, with specific language for sport bikes.

This one-day course for sport bikes includes military references and has a video introduction by Nick Ienatsch, the author of Sport Riding Techniques. It includes a classroom segment with activities to improve perception and hazard awareness. Personal risk assessment is emphasized. Range exercises focus on crash-avoidance skills.
